Welcome Heather!
Heather is dishing out the details about Meadow Ridge, the community presented in her "Meadow Ridge" romance series. The series is currently available through Silver Publishing.
Meadow Ridge is a completely
fictional community that I created to be the central location in my Meadow
Ridge Romance series. Most of my heroines are connected in some way because of
living in the Meadow. It’s an elite, gated community that is very close-knit.
The residents are extremely wealthy, hardworking either with their own
companies or with charities, and all of them like the finer things in life,
which explains the ample amount of designer boutiques in the main shopping
district.
When I set out to write these books, I didn’t really have
a specific location in mind and I also didn’t want to be held back by the
logistics of writing about a real place that everyone would know. So I figured
I’d create this imaginary place so that anything I wanted or needed would be
there. And I’ve had so much fun designing this community! Some of the
architecture of the Meadow comes from things I’ve seen in New York City and the
boroughs like the brownstone building that houses Bloom’s Books in Love and Lattes. Other parts of the
Meadow come from places I’ve visited elsewhere in the United States, Canada and
Europe. It’s not reflective of any one specific place, but rather a
collaboration of bits and pieces from everywhere I’ve been or seen at any time.
The central theme of the Meadow just sort of came together
on its own. I’ve always loved scenic, natural environments—although I’m
definitely not what you’d call outdoorsy!—and I have a passion for the
eco-movement. When I started picking names for businesses and streets etc in
the Meadow, all of the names I picked ended up being very nature-based. You can
buy at coffee or magazine at Bloom’s Books, or go out for dancing and drinks at
Oasis nightclub, grab tapas at Luna, window shop on Lark Avenue, own a mansion
on Woodbury Road, or relax in Cherry Blossom Park.
I imagine the Meadow to be the perfect mix of luxury
businesses and delicious restaurants, brownstones and other architecturally
beautiful buildings, contemporary mansions and an abundance of green space.
Every building and home has solar panels on the roof, solar lanterns light the
streets, and recycling is part of everyday life. Now if only I could convince
the characters to ride their bikes instead of drive their luxury vehicles…I
don’t see that happening any time soon. *g*
Meadow Ridge is the community of my heart. It’s the
combination of luxury, eco-conscience, and environmental sustainability I wish
existed in real life. At least I get to live there vicariously through my
characters in the Meadow Ridge Romance series.
Hmm, I think I just got a notice that a new juice bar and
an organic farmer’s market are moving into town. Sweet! I *love* this place!
I hope you’ll stop by and visit Meadow Ridge soon. Happy
reading!

LOVE ON LANDING
(A Meadow Ridge Romance) Blurb:
When Tali tries to recover
from a recent break-up with a trip to Paris for some retail therapy, she
discovers shopping isn’t the only way to cure her broken heart. On route, she meets
new pilot, Gavin. Tali and Gavin have instant chemistry and friction as their
personalities clash at 30,000 feet.
One night in bed isn’t
enough to quell the fireworks between Tali and Gavin and when tempers erupt,
Tali’s ex-boyfriend is there to pick up the pieces. Too bad she’s finally
realized what she really wants in life…and it isn’t her ex or the life her
father has planned back home.
Now all
Tali wants is the man who loved her enough to tell her what she didn’t want to
hear, but can she win his heart back again on the trip home and find Love on
Landing?
LOVE ON LANDING Excerpt:
“Gavin, can I get your help
in here for a minute?”
She heard a loud groan and
the chair in the waiting room squeaked as he stood. Her door clicked open and
Gavin peeked his head inside the tiny room. His tired eyes instantly lit up at
the sight of her reflection in the mirror. Exactly the kind of reaction she
hoped an outfit like this would stir in someone. Especially someone as hot as
Gavin.
“Can you lace up the back for
me? It’s a bit tricky to reach.”
“Um—sure,” he said quietly,
taking the edges of the material from her hands. His gaze shifted to her back
and she was suddenly aware of the lack of clothing between her skin and his
fingers.
Apparently he was aware of
her naked flesh too.
His large fingers fumbled
with the laces almost letting them slip. She quickly held the top tight against
her stomach so it wouldn’t fall to the ground. Not that a situation like that
would be completely unwelcome with a guy like Gavin, but she’d prefer not to
have it happen in a changing room if possible. Her hotel room? Well, that was
different.
Why was she so attracted to
him?
‘Cause
he’s hot. And fights back. And hot.

This sounds like a great book. Enjoyed the excerpt. angadair@nwcable.net
ReplyDeleteSounds like a beautiful community!! As you have been envisioning Meadow Ridge, have you had anyone draw the community or make a model? I can see some beautiful painting coming from this. As you at writing the scenes do you draw them or just see them in your head?

Hi Mel, Well, I have not a single artist bone in my body and I don't think my stick drawings would add much to illustrate my imagination! LOL. So far, I've mapped out the parts of the community that I've mentioned in the books and a little extra. At some point, I'd like my husband, who actually has tons of artistic talent, to draw the map for me and add in little illustrations of some of the locations. Maybe if I ask nicely, he'll do a few paintings for me this summer when he's not quite so crazy busy at work. As for while I'm writing, I usually just close my eyes and imagine the places I write about. Sometimes I'll find pictures that are similar. (You can find some of my inspirational pics on Pintrest!)
ReplyDeleteHeather,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!! When I was imagining Meadow Ridge I started to make a little play set. Complete with mansion like doll houses, luxury cars, beautiful dolls, everything. A play set for women!
Mel

Meadow Ridge sounds like such a fun place to live! And an organic farmer's market will be such a wonderful addition to our community. I say our community because I'd like to move in! It must be fun being able to create a community that might be your ideal...where you'd like to live.
